  • Members and Authorization
    • (1)Short-term renter: The user who seeks authorization at the Kiosk via chip credit card to use the Service for a short term.
    • (2)Member: The user who seeks authorization at the YouBike official site, service center or Kiosk to use the Service permanently. The member shall use an Easycard, or Ipass (your membership card) to rent a bike at any station.

  • New charge scheme for the YouBike Service
    • (1)User shall not rent a new YouBike within 15 minutes of returning one at the same rental station.
    • (2)Progressive rental rates
      1. For the first 30 minutes, pay NT$5 (Having an all pass ticket, you may use YouBike in Taipei for free for the first 30 minutes whenever you use it)
      2. Within 4 hours, pay NT$10 per 30 minutes.
      3. Between the 4th hours and 8th hours, pay NT$20 per 30 minutes.
      4. Above 8 hours, pay NT$40 per 30 minutes.
  • YouBike insurance: YouBike member could join the third party liability insurance and personal injury insurance on official website, YouBike App and KIOSK.

Taipei City has four train stations, including Taipei Station, Songshan Station, Nangang Station, and Wanhua Station, which are one of the most important public transportation services for city commuters. Taiwan’s trains go through big cities and small towns, providing passengers with a safe and comfortable travel experience. There are several types of passenger trains such as the intercity train, Fuxing, Juguang, and Ziqiang. Depending on your time, budget, and destination, you are free to choose your most preferred transportation method. Advance reservations for weekend and holiday trains are recommended in case tickets are sold out.

The Taiwan High-Speed Rail has made Taiwan’s public transport system more convenient because it brings cities and towns closer together. Today, passengers can even travel between Taipei and Kaohsiung in one day. Along the “Western Corridor” of Taiwan are 12 THSR stations: Nangang, Taipei, Banqiao, Taoyuan, Hsinchu, Miaoli, Taichung, Changhua, Yunlin, Chiayi, Tainan, and Zhuoying. Moving among the corridor’s stations at 300km per hour at the fastest speed, THSR offers truly convenient rides.

Private companies such as Kuo-Kuang Motor Transport, Ubus, Southeast Bus, Aloha Bus, and Ho-Hsin Bus mostly run Taiwan’s long-distance highway buses. These buses take passengers to all parts of Taiwan through national and provincial highways.

Many buses depart daily, traveling among the country’s major cities. It is, therefore, a convenient transportation system to use. Some routes even operate 24 hours a day. Moreover, the cost is usually cheaper than taking a flight or a train, making the highway buses a heavily utilized transport system in Taiwan. For safety reasons, however, please do not take any buses that are offered by an unregistered company.

A highway bus trip allows one to relax and enjoy the scenery along the way and even get to know the local lifestyle more. Generally speaking, no reservations are needed for non-rush hour buses. However, during holidays, including the New Year vacation as well as when the highway traffic is congested, it is recommended to your book tickets in advance or simply choose another transport system to save time.

Car Rental

Renting a car is fairly easy in Taiwan. Car rental services can be found by the major airports and train stations. In larger cities, car rental companies are more commonly available. These companies offer a vast range of vehicles for customers to choose from and can, thus, are assured a relaxing and fun car trip. Most companies also offer special discounts and the client may get the car in place A and return it in place B, with a small extra fee payable. Please ask the company if the rental includes insurance and if there are additional fees to be paid.

Taiwan has a thriving network of domestic flights. Many airplanes offer flights among the country’s main cities daily. In fact, taking a flight has almost become as common as taking a long-distance bus and the flights are often fully booked on weekends and holidays. Please book a seat in advance from the airline company you plan to use. You may also make a booking through a travel agency.

When checking in at the airport, please bring a valid ID (Taiwanese citizens, please show your national identity card; foreigners, please present your passport).
